Obituary of Richard N. Feil
Richard N. Feil, 73, of Mansfield, PA, passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2010, surrounded by his family.
Richard was born on September 12, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Lawrence and Harriet (Reitz) Feil.
He received his Bachelors of Science degree in psychology from the Catholic University of America. He then completed his Masters degree in 1966 and his PhD in Psychology from the Catholic University of America in 1968.
Richard was a professor of psychology at Mansfield University from 1968 to 2003. During this time, he developed the Public Mind survey. He found great joy in helping his students and wanted to be remembered as a secular humanist.
Following his retirement, he enjoyed taking classes in the arts, especially ceramics, watercolors, and acrylics.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer (Hutchinson) Feil, of Mansfield, sons Mark Feil (and wife Tammy) of Wilmington, DE, Thomas Feil (and wife Stacie) of Bethlehem, PA, Matthew Feil (and wife Lisa) of Wellsboro, daughter Mary (Feil) Gorman (and husband Patrick) of Ellicott City, MD, and step-son Jesse (and wife Johanna) Brown of Ithaca, NY. He also loved spending time with his surviving 9 grandchildren Mikayla, Abby, Grace, Watson, Rachel, Sara, Rayna, Camille, and Kyra.
He is also survived by his brother Lawrence Feil (and wife Jean) of Herrin, IL, sister Carol Lundgren of Naperville, Illinois, brother Fr. Carl Feil, of Florida, sister Sr. Mary Feil, L.C.M. of Chicago, Illinois, and his ex-wife, Judith Feil of Wellsboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Ann (Feil) Kelch.
Public viewing will be at the Buckheit Funeral Home, Mansfield, on Tuesday, March 30, 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be immediately following the viewing.
