Obituary of Terry Wilcox

Terry Jon Wilcox, 71, of Wellsboro, passed away very unexpectedly on May 15, 2023 at home. He was born September 19, 1951, in Wellsboro, to the late John E. and Lois (Stilwell) Wilcox. He graduated from Wellsboro High School in 1969 where he played basketball and baseball. He was very competitive on the court and field and a friend off it, whether you were a teammate or an opponent. After high school, he played in various adult basketball leagues in both PA and NY. He also played on different softball teams in and around Wellsboro. He cherished those memories and fondly talked of them and the people. Terry briefly attended WACC for Business, at the urging of his mother, but it wasn't for him, and he took a job working in the Ornaments Department for Corning Glass Works in Wellsboro. During that time, he coached Pop Warner football in Wellsboro. Around 1978, Terry moved to Colorado. He enjoyed his time there camping in the Tetons, watching The Broncos & The Avalanche, traveling the Western states, concerts at Red Rocks (especially The Moody Blues, his favorite band), and learning his trade as an electrician. Terry returned to Wellsboro to help his mother during her last battle with breast cancer. Terry took his mother to every Chemo treatment in Williamsport and always bought her a strawberry milkshake for the ride home. Terry took solace in knowing that he did everything he could in trying to ease the suffering of both his parents during their individual illnesses. Terry continued to work as an electrician and as a bartender at The Gaslight. It was there that Terry met his future wife of over 33 years, Patricia (Davies) Wilcox. Terry and Pat were married on August 19, 1989. On January 29, 1993, the joy of their life, their son, Kyle Lewis Wilcox was born. Terry was a loving partner to Pat and a proud, loving and doting father to Kyle. Terry coached every year of Kyle's little league and coached Kyle's recreational basketball from 3rd to 5th grade. Terry never missed one of Kyle's baseball or basketball games and even made most of his golf matches. Terry retired from Tioga County in 2011 and then worked for Lowe's. In 2015, Terry and Pat moved to Florida. However, in 2020, Terry longed to return home to the mountains of Pennsylvania. Pat gave in, being tired of hearing him say, "I'd rather go through a blizzard than a hurricane any day!" Back living in Wellsboro, Terry enjoyed seeing old friends and visiting old haunts. Kyle's most endearing memory of his dad is that he made people smile. The day before Terry's passing, one of the last things he told Kyle was a joke and ended the call with, "I love you, Bud!" Always the loving Husband, on the day of his passing, Terry got hoagies, picked up Pat from work, and took her to the park for lunch informing her that he had planted the lupines and watered the plants. He parted from her with the usual "Love you." Terry simply found joy in taking care of the people (and pets) he loved so very much. Terry is survived by his wife, Pat, son and daughter-in-law Kyle and Dia Wilcox of Savannah, GA, brother, Scott (Sue) Wilcox of Wellsboro and a sister, Susan Wilcox of Florida, several uncles, an aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Terry's Celebration of Life will be held at the Horseshoe Inn, 68 Old Tioga St, Wellsboro, PA 16901 (570) 724-9088 from 2-5pm on Sunday, May 21, 2023. There will be an open bar from 2-4 with light snacks provided and a memory box where you may leave a special memory you shared with Terry for Pat and Kyle.
