Obituary of Nancy Wenslow
Nancy (Johnson, Tengstrand) Wenslow, age 88, of Blossburg, PA passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023 with family by her side.
Born in Elmira, NY on August 30th 1934 to Clarence "Curley" and Beatrice (Carpenter) Johnson, she was the youngest of their three children. She graduated from Southside High School and continued her education at Upsala College in East Orange, NJ. Her work experiences were varied as she was the first woman manager of the Downtown Health Club in Elmira and owned The Little Porch gift shops in Elmira, Watkins Glen and at the Windmill Market.
Her faith was very important to her, and she was a life-long member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Elmira and more recently attended services at Siloa Lutheran Church in Morris Run.
She loved music and her Swedish heritage. She was raised in a musical family as her father was a well-known big band leader in the area. She sang in the choir in high school and college. Later, she sang with the Common Time Choral Group in Elmira. She was a driving force to help get the Southside High School Concert Choir to an international competition in Vienna, Austria in 1983. Her love of singing and all things Swedish, culminated in the creation of the St. Lucia Festival at Bethany Lutheran Church – a beloved holiday tradition that began in 1957 and continues to this day.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Donald Wenslow; her son, Peter (Zsofia) Tengstrand of Auburn, NH; daughters: Lydia (Charlie) Brennan and Rebecca Dizon, both of Mansfield, PA; two step-daughters: Sandra (Bruce) Rosenthal of Erie, PA and Lori Long of Canton, MI; and two step-sons: Jeffrey (Julie) Wenslow of Sapphire, NC and Gregory Wenslow of Ft. Pierce, FL; eleven grand-children (Patrick Brennan, Laura Brennan, Eric Brennan, Will Brennan, Lydia Dizon, Adeline Tengstrand, Erik Tengstrand, Emily Long, Andrew Long, Tyler Wenslow and Tiffani Trent) and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Eric Tengstrand; her sisters: Shirley Maker and Marilyn McMullen; and two step-grandchildren: Skylar Wenslow and Danielle Wenslow.
