Who else could have made English grammar one of my favorite MU courses... Sorry to hear of her passing.

My sincere condolences to Winnie's family. She was one of my favorite professors. Winnie was always so engaging, warm, and bubbly in the classroom and was a true example to her students. I dog sat for her in my younger years, and sometimes had the pleasure of running into her in the school in which I taught. She was truly a wonderful lady.

Win taught the first college course I ever took: Freshman Comp. She was lively, engaged, indefatigable, strong.
She was one of those professors who seemed to radiate energy always: delivering a lecture, taking roll call, or simply walking the corridors of Benlknap Hall.
And always the laser-clear piercing blue eyes that burned through you, your nonsense, your incoherent writing, but also backed with a cheery smile. Although "technically" a shorter human on this planet, Win appeared as though she were as powerful as a small star--one whose gravitational pull well exceeded her size--and if you fell within her orbit, you were obliged to remain close by, and listen.
Win who bridged the classroom gap for me, from professor's kid to college writer--a balancing act that might have been awkward, given my entire childhood lived in and around Mansfield's English Dept.
Instead, it was a semester of invaluable lessons: the techniques of research, the stripping away in an essay of all things extraneous, the "figuring out" of what one might write, the decoding of critical thinking--all delivered with upbeag, unerring accuracy, seemingly driven by the tinyest nuclear power-plant imaginable, deep inside her heart.
Her only agenda in the classroom was to (firmly!) lead students to abandon old byways in favor of much more thoughtful paths. In this endeavor, much of the time, I imagine she succeeded.
I'lI be forever grateful for that time, and for Win's indelible presence.

Winnie was such an inspiration to me and so many other prospective English teachers. Long after I graduated, she welcomed me into her home and always shared her wisdom about teaching, students, and life.

I will miss my visits with Winnie as I was walking around our neighborhood. Wonderful and delightful to have conversations with. My Dear Clark and Winnie will have a special place in my heart. I will miss them, but know they are together with The Lord in Heaven. Good-bye my dear friends and neighbors.

Dear Michael,
Please accept my sincere sympathy for the loss of your mother. Winnie was a great neighbor to Charles and me for many years and I always looked forward to our chats over the fence. She had lots of spunk and always had a great story to tell. May she now rest in peace.

Michael and Connie I am so very sorry for your loss. She touched so many lives and I don't think you would find a person in Mansfield who didn't know who she was. My heart goes out to you both and your family

My sympathy to the family. May the good memories help ease the loss at this difficult time.
Many fond memories of a good and fun loving neighbor. We each came to Mansfield
the same year and learned we had several common friends from prior stops in our lives.
