Obituary of Alice Slingerland
Alice (Cox) Slingerland, age 91, of St. Cloud, FL, formerly of Mansfield, PA, died Sunday, September 15, 2013 at her home in Florida. Alice was born February 4, 1922 in DeRuyter, NY, a daughter of Walter and Marian (Neal) Cox. She was married to Warren C. Slingerland on January 11, 1942 who preceded her in death on May 28, 1985. Alice was a member of the St. Cloud Garden Club, Mansfield Garden Club, Marinda Rebekah Lodge #107 of Stony Fork, PA, and Deborah Rebekah Lodge #82 of St. Cloud, FL - member for 66 years. She was a member of the Mansfield First United Methodist Church. Alice worked at Corning Glass in Wellsboro, as well as the Commonwealth Telephone Co. for 23 1/2 years in a management capacity. Her hobbies were crocheting afghans, genealogy, world traveler, flowers, and especially growing orchids. She had a great love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and loved her role as a homemaker.
Alice is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Dr. Gary "Doc" Burleigh of Mansfield, PA; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Denise Slingerland of Columbia Cross Roads, PA; a brother, Richard Cox of Dade City, FL; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Alice was predeceased by sons, William "Billie" Slingerland (1948), Robert "Bobby" W. Slingerland (1960), and Charles "Bud" Slingerland (2008).
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church, 67 E. Wellsboro, St., Mansfield, PA. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor John West and Pastor John Kenzy officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 67 E.
