Obituary of William Frederick Elvidge
William (Bill) Frederick Elvidge, 78, of Troy, PA, passed away at home surrounded by his family, July 11, 2013 after a long fight with cancer. William was born in Albany, NY on July 13, 1934 to John and Helen (Dempsey) Elvidge. The Elvidge family moved to the Troy area when Bill was 7 years old. Bill attended the Troy schools and worked the family farm until he was drafted into the Army in 1957. Bill served for 2 years and was stationed in Germany. On September 10, 1957 Bill married his loving wife, Norma Mason.
William worked at American LaFrance for 23 years welding fire engines. Bill then went into the veal business for 25 years, and drove school bus and transport vans for 15 years.
William had many interests: he was a member and past president of the Gillette South Creek Lions, inductee into the Troy Bowling Association Hall of Fame, camping, hunting, fishing and other various clubs. William is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma (Mason) Elvidge; 2 daughters, Audrey and Bernard Cole of Mainesburg, PA, Ellen and Wayne Baldwin of Troy, PA; 3 siblings, Jackie (Elvidge) and Carl Whitehead of LeRaysville, PA, Mildred Stalhe of Troy, PA, Gary Elvidge of Troy, PA; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; multiple nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
William was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Elvidge, and brother-in-law, Lincoln Stahle. At William's request, there will not be a funeral but a celebration of his life at the Gillette South Creek Lions on July 28, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The family asks that you do not send flowers, but make a donation to the Towanda Memorial Hospice, or South Creek Lions, Gillette, PA in William's name.
