Obituary of Alvin E. Kyte
Alvin Al E. Kyte, age 88, of Wellsboro, PA, formerly of Piedmont, TN and Kettering, OH, died on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at his home. Al was born on December 20, 1918 in Dandridge, TN, the son of Granville and Alice (Jenkins) Kyte. He was married to Kathy E. (Goodwin) Kyte with whom he would have celebrated 35 years of marriage in December.
Al was employed by General Motors for 31 years in the Brake Division prior to his retirement in May, 1981. A Corporal in the U.S. Armys First Battalion 394th Infantry during World War II, he served three years in the European Theatre, including seven months on the front line from Luxemburg to Berlin, Germany. Al was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellsboro, PA, a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Shrine in Dayton, OH, and the Wheel Inn in Roaring Branch, PA. He was an avid baseball fan enjoying the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds. His hobbies included woodworking, lawn work, animals and southern gospel music. Al was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
In addition to his wife, Kathy, Al is survived by two sons, A. Dennis Kyte of Connecticut, G. Scott Bryant of North Port, FL; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Timothy McConnell and Krista and Steve Torpy of Wellsboro, PA; six grandchildren, Shawn P. (Maegan) McConnell of Middlebury Center, PA, Travis J. (Noell) McConnell of Ocean Side, CA, and Michelle L. Mckissick of Wellsboro, PA, Nicole, Melanie and Gregory Bryant of North Port, FL; three great granddaughters, Abigail, Emma and Isabelle McConnell of Middlebury Center, PA; two brothers, Howard Kyte of Urbana, OH, Wayne Kyte of Powell, TN; one sister, Wilma Elmore of New Market, TN, and many nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by two brothers, Conrad and Jay Kyte and one sister, Ruby Mullins.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, October 11, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, October 12, 2007 from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory and Monuments, PC, 637 South Main Street, Mansfield, PA. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation on Friday, October 12, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Hill officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Als name to the Hamilton-Gibson Productions Building Fund, 29 Water Street, Wellsboro, PA, 16901 or the First Baptist Church Music Fund, 25 Central Avenue, Wellsboro, PA, 16901.
