Obituary of Heinz P. Schoen
Heinz P. Schoen, 90, of Troy, PA died peacefully at home on Monday, June 17, 2013 surrounded by his family. Heinz was born in Heidelberg, Germany on June 22, 1922, the son of Konrad and Sophie (Gronewaudt) Schoen. He and his family immigrated to the United States landing on Ellis Island when he was seven years old. His family settled in New Jersey. As a United States Citizen, Heinz served in the Army during WWII. Heinz was an avid gymnast, belonging to gymnastic clubs, where he met his wife of 69 years, Gerda Braun.
Heinz maintained an extremely strong work ethic. He worked for over 40 years as a Machinist for AT&T in Whippany, NJ, and after retiring to Toms River, NJ, Heinz went back to work at his friend's machine shop until he age of 84. In 2011 Heinz and Gerda relocated to Troy, PA to live with their daughter and son-in-law.
Heinz's family was the most important aspect of his life. Surviving is his daughter, Lori (John) Koch; his grandchildren, Jenny (Derek) Parks and Adam Koch, and his great grandchildren, Alyssa and Garret Parks, Wilder and Jasper Koch, and Patience Guilds; his brother, Kurt Schoen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gerda; his daughter, Lisa; his brother and sister-in-law, Fritz (May) Schoen; his sister-in-law, Lottie Schoen and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda (Lou) Grube.
Private services will be held at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Guthrie Hospice, 421 Tomahawk Rd., Towanda, PA 18848. Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA is assisting the family. www.buckheitfcandcrematory.com
