Obituary of Benjamin Hutcheson
Benjamin "Ben" C. Hutcheson, age 72, of Mansfield, PA, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA after a courageous battle with cancer. Ben was born August 15, 1940 in Blossburg, PA, a son of Fred and Hazel (Smith) Hutcheson. He was married 47 years to Patricia (Jones) Hutcheson. Ben was employed as a Mansfield Borough Police Officer and realizing after a traffic stop he was not cut out to give people tickets. He worked for the Mansfield Borough Maintenance Department for 38 years with best friend, Loren Kendrick. Ben was a member of Holy Child Catholic Church, Mansfield, PA; was past president and member of the Arnot Sportsman's Club; member of the Hillside Rod and Gun Club, Mansfield V.F.W., Blossburg Legion, and the Theodore Roosevelt Post 167 American Legion. Ben served as Captain of the Mansfield Ambulance Service; was an EMT; Fireman of the year in 1970; Mayor of Mansfield 1977 to 1984; Boro Council member for two terms, and Citizen of the Year in 2002. Ben was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Cold War.
Ben is survived by his wife, Patty; a son, Craig Hutcheson of Fredon, NJ; a daughter, Lisa Hutcheson of Smyrna, DE; 2 grandchildren, Weldon "Tre" Hall and Talaney Pierce; mother-in-law, Dorothy Jones of Mansfield, PA; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; special friends, Loren and Patty Kendrick, and Deanna and Jerry Rumsey. He was predeceased by a brother, Lester Hutcheson, 2 half-brothers, Arthur and Floyd Miller.
In keeping with Ben's wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers and cards, donations can be made via Patricia Hutcheson to the Ben Hutcheson Memorial Scholarship Fund to be developed and given to a senior from Mansfield High School.
