Obituary of Graydon Edmund Fanning
Graydon E. Gray Fanning age 79 of Wellsboro, PA died on Sunday October 7, 2007 at the Samaritan House after a valiant effort against his cancer. Gray was born on January 23, 1928 in Troy, PA a son of Edmund and Margaret (Joralemon) Fanning. He was the husband of Edith (Mershimer) Fanning.
Gray leaves his wife of fifty-one years Edith and five children; David (Carol) Fanning of Fort Collins, CO; Rhonda Iacuzzo of Fort Collins, Co; James (June) Fanning, of Painted Post, NY; Robert Fanning of Tampa, FL, and Susan (Robert) Cleveland of Wellsboro, PA, ten grandchildren Christopher, Erin, Andrew, Brian, Jonathon, Eric, Alexis, Garrett, Dylan and Crystal, a great granddaughter Maredith, a sister; Barbara (Charles) Baldwin of Troy, PA. Gray was preceded in death by a brother William Fanning.
Gray was a retired Lieutenant Commander in the Medical Service Corps of the United States Navy having served twelve years as a hospital corpsman and fifteen years as a MSC officer in hospital administration.
Gray was an avid golfer and belonged to the Tyoga Country Club. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wellsboro, PA, and volunteered with Tioga Co. Meals On Wheels. He came to Wellsboro in January 1980 to be the Executive Director of the Green Home and retired from that position in 1991, but remained in Wellsboro, a town he visited with his grandfather in 1933 and fell in love with.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, October 12, 2007 from 10 AM to 11 AM at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC 637 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA. A memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation at 11 AM with the Rev. Eugene Charsky and Rev. Dr. Robert Greer officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn National Cemetery in NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels Queen St. Wellsboro, PA 16901 or to the Samaritan House 3 Morgan Terrace Wellsboro, PA 16901.
