Obituary of DeWitt William Messner
DeWitt William Bill Messner, Jr. age 88 of Covington, PA died December 20, 2006 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. He was the husband of Winona C. (Fessler) Messner for 68 years. Bill was born on September 28, 1918 in Liberty, PA the son of Dewitt W. Messner Sr. and Phoebe (Davis) Messner. Bill was an employee of Ward Manufacturing for 39 years and owned and operated his own insurance business, the Messner Insurance Agency, for 18 years. Bill was a member of the Covington United Methodist Church. He was a 50 year member of the F&AM Friendship Lodge # 247, a member of the Williamsport Consistory, and a member of the Shriners, a 60 year member of the Arbon Lodge Odd Fellows, member of the Tool Engineering Society. Bill was dedicated to the Covington Community Center and served as a supervisor for Putnam Township.
Bill is survived by his wife, two sons and daughters-in-law, D. William C. Bill and Helene of Arkport, NY, Larry E. and Donna Messner, four grandchildren Melissa (Louis) Tosto, William J. Messner, Martin (Deborah) Messner, Derek (Victoria) Messner, three sisters-in-law Miriam Marvin of Wellsboro, PA, Arlene Kuster of Blossburg, PA, Ardis Baity of Covington, PA a brother-in-law Charles (Jane) Fessler of Covington, PA.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, December 23, 2006 from 1 to 3 PM at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC 637 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA. A Masonic Service will be held at the conclusion of the viewing at 3 PM at the funeral home. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Gray Cemetery, Covington, PA. The family will provide the flowers. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made the American Cancer Society 1948 E.
