Obituary of Frank Wesley Fenno

Frank Wesley Fenno III passed away peacefully with his bride at his side on February 16, 2012. He was born in Annapolis, MD, on March 1, 1933 to Avis Anne (Cochran) Fenno and Lt. Frank W. Fenno, Jr., USN. Known as Reuben to his family and close friends, he grew up in various places around the country and world due to his fathers Naval Career. As an 8 year old boy living in Navy Housing, he witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor. After attending various schools, he found a home at the University of Maine, graduating with a degree in Economics. The highlight of his college career was meeting his future bride, Joan Carol Whyte, on a blind date. They were married July 2, 1955, and shared 56 wonderful years together. Following graduation, he joined the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant, serving two years in Korea. He served in the infantry, commanding a heavy mortar unit. After his discharge from active duty, he remained in the reserves and attended the Harvard Business School, graduating with an MBA with a specialty in Marketing. He was promptly hired by Corning Glass Works and dedicated his next 30 years to the company in various positions, starting in sales and rising to be Director of Marketing in the Consumer Products Division. It was during this time of his life that he forged strong friendships including his "Fellow Knights of the Road", who all meant so much to him. Upon retirement, he and his daughter, Stephanie, owned and operated Stephanies Spirits, a local Wine and Beverage store in Corning. He spent a great deal of time with one of his greatest passions/frustrations, fly fishing. Traveling the country with his bride, Joan, and anyone else willing to go, he found some of the most secluded and beautiful streams in the world. His greatest passion was his family. With his bride always with him, he treasured his children and grandchildren, especially those moments creating family memories. He was the catalyst behind the chaotic Christmas celebrations and summer vacations with his entire extended family, included the four legged variety. He made sure all his family loved the outdoors, cherishing their time with each other. He is survived by his bride, Joan Carol Whyte Fenno, his children, Karen Fenno Abbott (husband Clifford, Jr., grandchildren Clifford III and Caitlyn), son Frank W. Fenno IV (wife Tricia and grandchildren Alexandra and Zachary), daughter Stephanie Fenno Dubots (husband George, Jr.), son Michael Clifton Fenno (wife Tracy, grandchildren Amy, Michael, Elise, and Grace) and daughter Leslie Fenno (grandchildren Cody and Ashley). He is also survived by his older brother, Charles, of Tennessee and younger brother, Ted, of Pennsylvania. Services will be held at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S Main St, Mansfield, PA, 16933 on Monday, February 20th, 2012. Family will greet friends at 10:00 AM and the service will be at 11:00 AM, reception to follow.
