Obituary of Arland R. VanNess
Arland R.VanNess, age 90, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Sunday, January 30, 2011 in Broad Acres Health & Rehabilitation Center, Wellsboro, PA. Born on February 23, 1920 in Wellsboro, PA, he was the son of Manley B. and Ada (Reese) VanNess. Arland and his wife, Patricia (Bennett) VanNess, would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on November 17, 2011.
Prior to his retirement, Arland was employed as a polisher and grinder for Corning Glass in Corning, NY. He was a US Army veteran and served during World War II. Arland was a member of the Cherry Flats Baptist Church and enjoyed his grandchildren, traveling, little kids and animals.
In addition to his wife, Patricia, he is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie (Edward) Nowak of Wellsboro, PA, Diane (Travis) Snyder of Wellsboro, PA, Judy (Larry) Tarbox of Wellsboro, PA, Robbie (Marty) Kilmer of Catawissa, PA, Jackie (Gerald) Burton of Harrisburg, PA; three sons, Jerry VanNess, Terry VanNess, Larry VanNess all of Wellsboro, PA; one brother, Vernon VanNess of Wellsboro, PA; one sister, Betty Davis of Wellsboro, PA, one sister-in-law, Donna VanNess of Wellsboro, PA; 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Arland was predeceased by an infant daughter; one son, Roger James VanNess and a brother Tom VanNess.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, February 5, 2011 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC, 637 South Main Street, Mansfield, PA. A funeral service will be held at the funeral chapel immediately following calling hours at 1:00 PM with his nephew, Pastor Dale VanNess officiating.
