Obituary of Elon B. Simmons
Elon B. Simmons, age 92, of Tioga, PA, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. Elon was born November 23, 1917 in Brookfield, PA, a son of William and Elvira (McPeek) Simmons. He was the husband of the late Shirley (Rathbun) Simmons who passed away on October 16, 2005. Elon was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years, retiring in 1984. Prior to working for the Post Office, he was employed by Corning Glass and Ingersoll Rand. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Wellsboro, the American Legion in Tioga, the V.F.W., and the National Rural Letter Carriers. Elon was a U.S. Army veteran having served in WWII in the 45th Infantry.
Elon is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia and Daryl Butler of Tioga, PA, Kathy Kahlil of Mechanicsburg, PA; three grandchildren, Timmy, Penny, and Tracy; six great grandchildren, Cassandra, Britany, Hannah, Kimberly, Travis and Eric; one great great grandchild, Chloe; two sisters, Elsie Easton of Ulysses, PA, Alice Jean Wood of Coudersport, PA. Elon was predeceased by his wife, Shirley, a sister, Emma Hughes, a brother, Ivan Simmons, and a granddaughter, Irene in 2008.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, January 4, 2010 from 11:00 A.M. to 12 Noon at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC, 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. Funeral services will follow at 12 Noon at the funeral home with Pastor Debra Button officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Tioga, PA. www.buckheitfcandcrematory.com
