Obituary of Claude R. Coons

Claude R. Coons, age 100, of Wellsboro, PA, died Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Broad Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wellsboro, PA. Claude was the husband of the late Dorothy L. (Leiby) Coons who died on November 22, 1998. Claude was born on July 28, 1909 in Covington, PA, a son of Harry and Lorinda (Packard) Coons. He retired from the Covington Post Office where he was the postmaster. Claude was a member of the Covington United Methodist Church for over 80 years. He was a member of the former Covington Boro Grange No. 1016. Claude is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Lanier C. and Margaret Peggy Coons of Watkins Glen, NY, Raymond L. and Virginia Coons of Rochester, NY; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Coons of Wellsboro, PA and Marian Yusko of Horseheads, NY. Claude was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, a brother, Irwin Coons, a half-brother, John Patterson, and two infant daughters. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 from Noon to 2:00 P.M. at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC, 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. Funeral services will be held immediately following the viewing at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home with the Rev. Clarence Whetstone officiating. Burial will be in Gray Cemetery, Covington, PA.
