Obituary of Erma L. Hebe
Erma L. (Stewart) Hebe, age 95, of Broad Acres, Wellsboro, PA, a former life-long resident of Liberty, PA, died Tuesday, September 2, 2008. Erma was born September 22, 1912 in Sebring, PA, a daughter of William and Jesse (Duff) Stewart. Erma graduated from Liberty High School and Mansfield Normal School, now Mansfield University. She was a Special Ed teacher in the Liberty School District for over 40 years, beginning in 1932 in the one room King school, and later in the Sebring and East Point one room schools and later in special ed in Liberty. Erma was a member of the Liberty Lutheran Church. Erma was a life member of the Sebring Grange; PA Retired Teachers Assoc., PSEA, Eastern Star, VIP with Country Terrace, a volunteer coordinator with the Area Agency on Aging, the Liberty Historical Society. She was a pioneer in the establishment of the Cub Scouts in Liberty. She enjoyed taking bus trips, senior activities, crocheting and quilting. She was a member of the Liberty Firemans Auxiliary.
Erma is survived by sons, Frank and (Jackie Allen) Hebe of Liberty, PA, William Bill (Shirley Zeafla) Hebe of Wellsboro, PA, Jim (Hazel Deitrick) Hebe; grandchildren, Mike, Eric, McLane and Peter Hebe, Molly (Jim) VanVliet, Alison (Joseph) Kibler, Christine Allen and Toni Allen Wilson; great grandchildren, McKenzie, Samuel, Jocelyn, William, Ivy and Katie. Also surviving are two nieces and two nephews; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Weaver of East Berlin, PA. Erma was predeceased by her husband, Roy in 1969, a brother, Earl Stewart and a sister, Jennie Landis.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, September 14, 2008 from 1:30 to 3:00 P.M. at the Liberty Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at the church at 3:00 P.M. with the Rev. David Byerly officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ermas memory to the Liberty Lutheran Church Building Fund, Attn: Treasurer, JoAnn Black, P O Box 59, Liberty, PA 16930. The Jacquelyn A.
