Obituary of Jeanette E. Bown
Jeanette E. Bown, age 92 of Troy, PA, passed away at her home with her daughters by her side on Friday, July 5, 2024. Jeanette was born June 28, 1932 in New Albany, PA, the oldest daughter of James and Jessie (King) Magee. She was the wife of the late Leland "Darrell" Bown. Jeanette and her siblings were taught by her father to box and many interesting occurrences came out of those lessons. Her high school activities included softball, cheerleading, chorus, singing her beautiful alto voice, joining with her sisters around the piano as she played, drama club which she thoroughly enjoyed and being crowned May Queen. Also, she organized her high school reunions including their 50th. She worked as a saleswoman for Brosman's in Williamsport which she loved and was offered a position as a buyer in New York City. She loved fashion but chose to raise her family as her first priority. She loved to sew and make matching dresses for her girls and herself. Every seam had to be perfect even if she had to take it out again and again. It meant so much to her. One of her other joys in life was the children she babysat over the years, they were truly family to her and Darrell. She taught all of them to say grace over their meals. She loved all of her friends and family and kept them close. She enjoyed line dancing and exercising. Christmas and all holidays were very important to her and she always went above and beyond. Jeanette also wrote beautifully and loved to write letters, enjoyed all kinds of hand crafts like knitting and crocheting. She was an avid photographer and loved to take photos of family and friends. That's why there aren't many pictures of her – she was always behind the camera. Jeanette and Darrell enjoyed many camping trips and going to Florida. Jeanette was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She was involved in the Methodist Church VBS Bible school and Sunday school and many other church activities.
Jeanette is survived by her daughters, Sandra Coad of Troy, PA, and Diane (Crist) Palmer of Canton, PA; grandchildren Richard, Jason and Jeremiah Campbell, Rebecca Machinski, Rachel Bond, and Nathan, Nicolas, and Heather Palmer; brother James (Ruth) Magee of New Albany, PA; sister Carol Levine of Towanda, PA; and 20 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Leland "Darrell" Bown in 2023, and sisters Sally, Sherie, and Joan.
