Ellie, I just happened to see Layne's obituary as I was perusing my old haunts and I wanted to wish you the best. It sounds like you had a wonderful marriage to a great guy. My condolences to you and your family.

Mr. "C" was one of the great neighborhood dads. As a scoutmaster, It was natural to him to be constantly teaching us kids in the neighborhood something about sports, nature, or even bestowing some wisdom. He even made a bunch of us some plywood Tommy guns to play with. When I was in 9th grade I was talking with him about working more hours so I could get a car. He said " just go and enjoy sports, you'll have the rest of your life to work". He was right. He was like a second father to many of us. He was always engaged with us kids and very kind. I have many fond childhood memories at the Conrad's. Thanks Mr. C. You won't be forgotten.
Tonight I am heart broken from hearing the news about Layne. He was a second Dad to me who took me under his wing and watched over me. I lived with Layne and his family in my early adult years and I will always remember his gentleness and the way he loved me and my children. He was the neighborhood kickball Dad and always looked after all of us. He will never be forgotten. Mark, Tammy and Ellie... I am praying for comfort for you and keeping all the memories of Layne in my heart always...

Layne was more than a neighbor to us, he was a third parent to myself and siblings. He was always there for us, even helped to teach me how to drive.
