Obituary of Joyce Taylor
Joyce Irene Roy Taylor was born at the home of her parents, Albert and Alice (Lewis) Roy, on August 3, 1932 in Coryland, Wells Township, Bradford County, PA. She died on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at The Green Home in Wellsboro, PA. Joyce graduated from Troy High School, earned a BA at Waynesburg College and a Master's degree from Arizona State University. She worked in Christian Education of Navajo Indian Reservation. After receiving her Master's degree, she taught school in Phoenix and Scottsdale, AZ. Joyce enjoyed playing games with family and friends. She enjoyed singing and sang in a variety of choirs and choruses over the years. From 1966 to 1969, Joyce taught English in the Middle East – one year in Cairo, Egypt, a semester in Teheran, Iran, and one and a half years in Lahore, Pakistan.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Taylor; stepsons, Michael and Mark Taylor; brothers, George and Lewis Roy (Velma Beach); sister-in-law, Cressie Roy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Elmer Spotts, Eleanor Simcoe Ziegler, C. Faye Simcoe, Robert Ziegler, Catherine and Willis "Bill" Kittle.
Joyce is survived by her brother, Lyle Roy; many nieces and nephews, especially Dolly Anderson (Terry), Amy Buck (Dennis), Rose Esty (Ken), Debra Greenleaf (Karen Feldbaum), James (Lori) and Robert (Justine Scarinci) Kittle, Ginger Kostecky (Ken), special friend, Barbara Bell; niece, LuAnn Simcoe; step grandchildren, Alyssa, Kiersten, and Preston Taylor.
In honoring Joyce's wishes, there will be no services. Memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church 67 Wellsboro St. Mansfield, PA 16933 or The Wellsboro Shared Home 27 Bacon St. Wellsboro, PA 16901. Joyce will be interred at Holy Hope Cemetery in Tucson, AZ. The family would like to give special thanks to the Shared Home and Green Home for the care they provided to Joyce.
