My sympathies to Jay's family. Jay and I grew up together on Lake Street in Osakis, MN. I was a classmate of his sister Ann. We spent hours exploring the shoreline of Lake Osakis with his brother Guy. Jay was a kind and happy child from what I remember. I did get to meet him again as an adult when he traveled back to Osakis. Jay was a scholar and a gentleman. Thank you Jay for your service! We are sending prayers of comfort for the family.

I remember living across from the Hohenhaus family. My mom Vi Nolan worked in Jay's dads vet office. Helen and Herb with awesome people. I'm so sorry to hear of Jay's passing and send my sympathy from Osakis, MN. (one of the Lake Street kids) Connie Nolan Rasmusen

I hate to have to say good bye to such a great friend. I grew up across the street from Jay and we spent nearly every day together playing and laughing. Our fathers were inseparable as well. Nearly every day I have thoughts from my childhood, our neighborhood and my friend. I had hoped to meet and shake his hand again. God Bless Jay, Susan and all your family your all in my prayers!
One of my favorite memories is Jay and I playing "Rat Patrol" in our neighborhood many times and many summers!

I got started late in life as a paramedic but I was blessed to meet Jay early on; his presence, knowledge, and control inspired me. I thought "That is the way I want to do this job." While I never attained the lofty status of Jay, I can truly say that whatever positives I might have done in the EMS world were inspired by Jay. His integrity, skill, and dedication to providing the best patient care were paramount and a very high goal to emulate. Jay was the guy I would go to if I thought I had made a mistake. Thankfully there weren't many but Jay always took the time to do a deep dive to improve what could be improved. You could not be around Jay long without hearing how wonderful Sue and the family were. Sue, I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine the pain. Our prayers are with you.

I will always remember our time as Explorers, camping and the 4 days in New York just before you graduated, 87’. My first time riding the subway, seeing the World Trade Center, Statue of Liberty and Central Park. You were always a great friend and close like a brother. You will be truly missed by so many….

Sad news today! Heard that my good friend and fellow Special Forces veteran passed away yesterday morning from cardiac arrest. R.I. P. Jay Hohenhaus know that you will be sadly missed by all that knew you. For you were truly a rare breed “Good Man” to your core through and throughout!

Jay and I became fast friends in 2001 when we began our anesthesia training. We connected on so many levels, always taking our profession (but never ourselves) seriously. Fond memories too numerous to count. A friend who stuck as close as a brother. I'm better for having had him in my life and so grieved by this loss.
