Obituary of Frank E. Dunkle
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Frank Edward Dunkle who peacefully journeyed into his eternal rest on November 30, 2023 at the age of 84. Born on August 8,1939 in Elmira, NY, he was predeceased by his loving parents Henry Sr. and Anna (Zahorian) Dunkle. Frank lived a life that touched the hearts of many. He loved his family and loved to talk to people even if they were strangers. In fact, with Frank, no one was a stranger. He was a butcher at Acme Supermarket for 38 years in Southport, NY, and he was beloved by so many customers who came to know him there. In the footsteps of his parents, Frank understood the importance of ensuring that his children followed in the Catholic faith at St. Mary's Church in Elmira, NY. He enjoyed going hunting, playing euchre and other card games, and going to Casinos. He was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with all of his heart.
Frank is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Sharon (Whiting) Dunkle. Their marriage began in high school, and, despite all odds, lasted 66 years. Together, they built a home and family on Kinner Hill Road in Pine City, NY. Frank also is survived by his children, Timothy Dunkle of Harrisburg, PA, Diane (Michael) Root of Westfield, PA, John Dunkle of Chicago, IL, and Eugene (Dan Downs) Dunkle of Phoenix, AZ; 3 grandchildren, Damon Prutsman, Felicia (Chaes) D'Andrea, and Rachael (Josh) Barrett; 10 great grandchildren, Nathan, Micah, Bella, Emaleigh, Alivia, Isla, Elliott, Kyler, Austyn, and Levi. He was also survived by sister-in-laws Maxine and Josefa Dunkle and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Leonora (Richard) Race and Lena (Eddie) Pautz; brothers, Michael (Nancy), Henry Jr. (Betty), Richard, and Paul Dunkle; son-in-law, Richard Prutsman, and god-daughter, Catherine (Kate) Elizabeth (Ketter) Smith.
