I have many fond memories of Aunt Erma. She was my father’s (Jack Miller) sister who married my mother’s (Laura Wales) brother, Harrison. Our family was at Aunt Erma and Uncle Harrison’s home frequently for picnics, holiday dinners and Sunday visits. Aunt Erma would enlist our help in setting the table and of course, the clean-up. I remember many times when my cousin Ginny and I washed the dishes. Three other memories stand out: one early spring, we helped carry buckets of sap from the maple trees to a wagon. The wagon went from the woods to the sugar shanty where an enormous vat boiled the sap. My Aunt Erma used her kitchen stove to finish the final evaporation. We were allowed small amounts of the hot syrup which we poured over cups of clean snow. The second memory is from a summer haying season. I helped Aunt Erma and Ginny fix huge mid-day meals for the men and boys who were cutting and baling hay. Finally, my Aunt Erma drove me to a college interview with a Bryn Mawr alumna who lived near Scranton. I was so grateful to her for being in my corner when my Dad was reluctant to let me go to college. When I visited PA, I was glad for the times we could get together. My Aunt Erma was a kind, loving presence and I feel blessed that she was in my life. I send my deepest sympathy to all family members.

Dear Aunt Erma has been my favorite Aunt since I married into our 'Wales' Family. She and I worked together the summer after I graduated at Tourism of Tioga County with Chester Bailey, Supervisor. Our booth was located by the old Fred's Woodshed. Aunt Erma could rattle off both the places to see and directions with finesse! Later, as our kids grew up it met the world to John and I when Aunt Erm attended our daughter's 'Going into the Army' party and her hug for our son, Nathan. One of the best memories came later in life. I'd seen a field full of defined cobwebs sparkling with dew and just had to stop at her house to get her. She was laughing when I said, "Come on Aunt Erma we've got to go now bc the lighting is perfect!" Erma's reply, "But I'm in my housecoat!" Saying this as she kept her slippers on and shut the door warmed my heart then and brings big smiles now. She never regretted, "But someone might see me in my housecoat!" She LOVED Nature! I love you Aunt Erma, Precious Woman of God and Warrior for Souls to be Saved. One of the most caring women I've ever known. Give our loved ones a hug from us, Aunt Erma

Gram, I will always love you! All the memories we shared – making cookies, eating cookies, telling jokes, splitting desserts, and you always giving me the bigger piece – I will always cherish. No matter how far away you are physically, you will be in my heart forever. I will miss you dearly – we all will. But now you are in a better place, pain-free, reunited with all your departed family, friends, and loved ones.
The last time I hugged you and kissed you good night was on 08/12/2023. You and I sat down and talked about life, my job, the dogs, and God love you, you thought I was in school, so we talked about that. But the detail that will live rent-free in my mind is the thing you said to me that night, "Life is hard, but there's always a rainbow at the end." Yes, Gram, yes there is. With that every rainbow I see it will be like you shining your great big heart on to me and all of us. I regret not taking the phone calls in school and not wanting to see you on your last day, but the memories we made I will always cherish, and I hope you do too. Until we meet again, give heaven some hell. Fly High!
