Obituary of Edith Jeannette Fanning
Edith Jeannette (Mershimer) Fanning, age 81, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 5, 2008 in the Green Home, Wellsboro, PA, after a valiant effort against Alzheimers. Edith was born June 2, 1927 in Princeton, PA, a daughter of Charles and Eva (Forbes) Mershimer. She graduated from New Castle Hospital School of Nursing in 1947, and retired in 1991 from The Green Home Nursing Home as a RN Supervisor. She was a Navy wife for 27 years. Edith was an avid golfer and belonged to the Tyoga Country Club, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro. She enjoyed her family, reading, golf, and crossword puzzles. Edith was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend and will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.
Edith is survived by her children: James (June) Fanning of Corning, NY, Robert Fanning of Tampa, FL, Susan (Robert) Cleveland of Wellsboro, PA, step-son, David (Carol) Fanning of Fort Collins, CO, Rhonda Iacuzzo of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren: Christopher (Paula) Fanning of Troy, NY, Erin (Andrew) Hughson of Big Flats, NY, Brian, Jonathon, Eric, Alexis, Andy, Garrett, Dylan and Crystal; a great grandchild, Maredith Hughson; sisters, Jean Day, Lois Mershimer , Eleanor Judge, all of New Castle, PA, and Doris Turner of Tampa, FL; brothers, Richard Mershimer of Sharon, PA, John (Sis) Mershimer of New Castle, PA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Charles Baldwin of Troy, PA; several nieces and nephews. Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Graydon, her sisters, Helen Ayres and Edna Biddle, and her brother, Joseph Mershimer.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, July 10, 2008 from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC, 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Eugene Charsky officiating. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, NY.
