Obituary of Mariam Frances Bliss
Mariam Frances (Blackwell) Bliss, age 91 of Liberty, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at her home. Mariam was born on May 13, 1931, in Elmira, NY, a daughter of Enoch and Cora (Rathbun) Blackwell. She grew up in Elkland, PA, where she attended primary school and graduated from Elkland High School in 1949. Mariam then attended St. Johnsbury Academy in Vermont for further education. She met Earl Bliss Jr. of Wellsboro and married in November 1951, moving to Liberty, PA, where they remained married for 66 years until Earl's passing in 2019. Mariam worked as a bank teller for Citizens and Northern Bank in Liberty, PA and was a member of the Liberty Lutheran Church.
Mariam enjoyed sewing, making quilts, and picking blueberries from their bushes. She loved to dance, create her own woodworking, and spend time with Earl and their families. Mariam enjoyed going to their Keuka Lake home and Pocono home for family fun, skiing, and fishing. Mariam is survived by a son, Ian Bliss of Dallas, PA; a daughter, Betsey, married to Randal Betz of Bradenton, FL; her five grandchildren, Christine, Randy Jr., Aimee, Laurie, and Hailey; and 13 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Earl L. Bliss, Jr. of Liberty, PA; parents Cora Margaret (Rathbun) Blackwell and Enoch Arden Blackwell of Elkland, PA; and her siblings, Dell and Caroline.
Mariam will be greatly missed, but her memory will be eternally cherished by everyone who had the sincere pleasure to know and love her. In accordance with Mariam's wishes there will be no public services.
