Bill was a lifelong fan of baseball and football. As a spectator, he followed the Pirates and Steelers. He also coached youth baseball for a decade and wrote sports articles for local newspapers. He greatly enjoyed fantasy sports, going all the way back to APBA baseball card games. He taught himself enough Japanese to become a foremost expert on Japanese baseball statistics so that he could incorporate Japanese professional baseball into early computer fantasy baseball programs.
He held various jobs throughout his life, from rock band roadie to in-home nurse to delivery driver. Working in lumber mills was his favorite career. He worked two jobs simultaneously for the last several years of his life. Reluctant to retire, he continued working one part-time job right up until the end.

Dear Kathryn and sons, I am so sorry for your loss. I was a childhood friend of Jolly’s. My name is David Miller also known as Flinthead. A nickname given to me by Jolly and Jeff Behm. The three of us used to spend summer days playing Risk and baseball. I would like to share two stories with you.One summer evening we decided to climb up on the roof at Evans City school. Of course Evans City police spotted us. We all jumped down and got away except for Jolly. He sprained his ankle when he jumped off the roof. Of course he squealed on the rest of us. But all we got was a stern warning. This next story is one of the highlights of my life. I hadn’t seen Jolly for a few years and one day we had an Eagle County league baseball game. Jolly showed up to watch. After much hugging and laughing it was my turn to bat. Jolly was egging me on to hit a home run for him. I went up to the plate and pointed my bat like Babe Ruth. Lo and behold I hit a home run. We laughed and carried on,unbelievable. I feel so bad I think that was the last time I got to see him. I hope you had a wonderful life with Bill. I’m sure he’s listening to The Rascals,RIP old friend. Flinthead
