Obituary of Victoria M. McCarthy

Victoria M. (Vaganos) McCarthy, age 94, of Wellsboro passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022 at The Green Home. She was born on March 15, 1928, a daughter of Costis and Elpiniki (Samarakis) Vaganos. She graduated from Wellsboro High School in 1946. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. Married for 69 years, she dedicated her life to being a homemaker and cared deeply for her husband, the late John R. McCarthy, Sr. and family. She was a wonderful "Greek" cook and enjoyed making baklava with her sister. Friends and family may remember her funny jokes and blessings and prayers over her family. She will be missed for her spunk and welcoming smile, but most of all, the love she had for people. Victoria was preceded in death by her John R. McCarthy, Sr. on May 21, 2020; a son, John R. McCarthy, Jr. on December 23, 2015; and two sisters, Kathryn Root and Georgia Leach. She is survived by her two daughters: Caprice McCarthy-Evans of Mansfield, PA; Shalane (Steve) Gee of Wellsboro, PA; sisters Ellen (Don) Wilcox of Wellsboro, PA; Rita Beck of Wellsboro, PA; brother Chris Vaganos of Wellsboro, PA; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In honoring Victoria's wishes, there will be no services. Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 637 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA is assisting the family.
