I remember the evening Rich asked me about how he could help Dawn become a better runner when she was in 9th grade. I told him that if he had a bike, to go out and ride along as Dawn ran on the weekends. A couple of weeks later he told me that he and Barb had loaded the boys on their bikes and went out an rode along with Dawn running. He told me how he had grown up in Philly and was a typical South Philly boy. Cars and hanging on the corner. Soon he and Barb decided to run instead of bike, and the rest became a good story that I have told many people in Track and Field around the country about how I was lucky enough to be there at the start for two international runners. Rich was always concerned about kids, and would stop and talk about the track team and how his running had changed his life. When he had to stop running, you could see how much pain he was in from having to stop. A very dedicated man. .Philly's loss and Tioga's gain. Barb, Dawn, Rich and Mark, you were blessed with a good Man.
My deepest condolences for your family and friends. I remember when Rich Jr. and I were friends growing up, coming to visit you all was such a pleasure. You had the most beautiful home I have ever seen. You all were one of the nicest families I met. Hugs, prayers and much love.
