Obituary of William J. Smith
William J. Smith, age 85, of Mansfield, PA, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at the Green Home in Wellsboro, PA. He was born on May 15, 1936, in Rutland Township, a son of Bert and Mary (Hoagland) Smith. William was the husband of Charlotte (Kennedy) Smith with whom he would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on May 31, 2022. He was a veteran of the National Guard, a dairy and crop farmer, real estate agent for Endless Mountain Real Estate, dealer for Doebler's Seed Corn, and was a local Bank Director at First Citizens Community Bank for 23 years. William was a member of the Mosherville Baptist Bible Church. He was a member of the FFA for many years, PA state officer 1954 - 1955 and received the American Farmer Degree, a director of The Tioga County Conservation District for many years, Secretary Treasurer for the Tioga Valley Milk Co-op for 50 years, a member of the PA and National Holstein Association, a founding member of the Tioga County Fair, and was named Outstanding Young Farmer in Pennsylvania in 1973.
William is survived by his wife, Charlotte; son, Stephen (Shelly) Smith of Mansfield, PA; daughter, Penny (Daniel) Ulmer of Bellefonte, PA; grandchildren Matthew (Rosangela) Ulmer, Miranda Ulmer, Nathan (Christina) Ulmer, Naomi Ulmer, Forrest Smith, Dakotah Smith and Autumn Smith; great grandchildren Bruce, Benjamin, Travis, Angus, Phoebe, William, and Judah. He was preceded in death by brothers, Bert and Ken Smith and half-sisters.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, April 16, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Ted Rich officiating. Burial will take place at Lawrence Corners Cemetery in Rutland Township, PA.
