Obituary of Merrill M. Mischke
Merrill M. "Mike" Mischke, age 76, of Mansfield, PA, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. He was born on July 28, 1945, in Elgin, IL, a son of Bernhardt F. and Elfreide (Heinrich) Mischke. Mike was the husband of Marsha A. (Phippen) Mischke. He was a veteran of the US Navy, and a member of Bakerburg Community Church. Mike worked for 16 years as a custodian for the Southern Tioga School District. He later worked as a greeter at Walmart and served on the committees for the Mansfield 4th of July Celebration and the Fabulous 1890s Weekend. Mike was a volunteer fireman for Mansfield Hose Company and a first responder in Wellsville, NY. He and Marsha also volunteered at the Mansfield Food Pantry.
Mike is survived by his wife, Marsha; daughters, Paula (James) Arvin of Blanchard, PA, and Katherine (Chris) Hemenway of Mansfield, PA; sister, Merrilly (Karl) Outram of Columbia, IN; four grandchildren, Sean (April) Simpson, Stephanie (Tom) Gleason, April (Matt) Jerome, and Nicole Hemmingway and family; five great grandchildren, Daniel and Ryan Jerome, Rylee and Averii Gleason, and Laura Lee Simpson; half brother-in-law, Steven (Sandy) Martin of Farmington, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Phippen, Ron Phippen, Bruce Martin, and Larry Martin.
A private funeral service will be held at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA, with Pastor Paul Binkley officiating. Burial will take place in the Bath National Cemetery in Bath, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in Mike's name to Bakerburg Community Church, 197 Gray Valley Rd., Mainesburg, PA.
