Obituary of Samuel I. Chilson
Samuel I. Chilson, age 94, of 427 Tice Road, Mainesburg, PA, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2008 at his daughters residence. He was born May 10, 1913 in Franklindale, PA, the son of Leonard W. and Elizabeth Crane Chilson. He was a member of the Canoe Camp Church of Christ (Disciples), and a past member of the Canyon Squares. He worked for Jones & Brague of Blossburg, and the Billards Foundry in Mansfield, PA. He ran backhoe for Smiths Asphalt of Mansfield, and Dick Crittenden of Mansfield. The backhoe was a favorite of his. He and his wife enjoyed traveling around the country in their RV, visiting family and friends. He loved to go fishing, but liked to catch some, too. He enjoyed all his grandchildren whenever he saw them. Preceding him in death were his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Wilcox Chilson; two sons, Roy and Mahlon; two grandsons, Roy, Jr. and Bono McDonald; and two great-grandsons, Nathan Sargent and Justin Landon; brothers, Melvin, Harry, Arthur; sisters, Nora Bump and Orpha VanNoy; son-in-law, Leo Sargent; daughter-in-law, Virginia Chilson, and his parents.
Surviving are daughters, Dora (James) Tice of Mainesburg, with whom he resided, Stella Sargent of Mansfield, Nora (Gerald) Walters of Durham, NC, Linda (Dan) McDonald of Granville Summit, and Leota (Duane) McClure of Covington, PA; sons, Roger (Edna) and Samuel of Covington, PA, Richard (Cindy) of Brockport, NY, Martin (Cindy) of Riverside, CA, Lawrence (Rita) of Hemitt, CA, and Bruce (Emily) of Springfield, MO; two daughters-in-law, Shirley Chilson and Etta Mae Chilson of Mansfield, PA; 80 plus grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sue (Tom) Burley, and brother-in-law, Walter (Dorotha) Wilcox of Mansfield, PA; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday, February 20, 2008 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC, 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday immediately following the calling hours at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with the Rev. Kevin Brophy officiating.
