Obituary of Wilfred Toby
Wilfred H. Toby, age 97, of Mansfield, PA passed away at his home on Friday, May 14, 2021. He was born on October 17, 1923 in Lindley, NY, a son of Harrison and June (Harris) Toby. Wilfred was married to Helene (Bayer) Toby for 73 years. Through the years he owned a dairy farm in Lawrenceville, PA and also had several jobs in the dairy industry, as well as manager at Maple Farms Dairy in Elmira, NY. Prior to retirement he worked for several years at the Corning Hilton as an auditor. Wilfred was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed bowling, golf, and baseball. While playing baseball at Cornell University, Wilfred once played against George H. W. Bush. He was inducted into the Tioga County Hall of Fame for baseball and the Steuben County Hall of Fame for bowling. In December 1996 he bowled a three game score for a total of 826 and was honored by the American Bowling Association for his achievement. He also served as the president at Corey Creek Golf Club from 1998 to 2001 and enjoyed a lifetime membership there.
Wilfred is survived by his wife, Helene; daughters Diane (David) Bailey of Millerton, PA, Judith Lattin of San Francisco, CA, and Christine (David) Webb of Rochester, NY; grandchildren, Brian (Kristie) Bailey, Karin (Tim) Bailey, Amanda Webb, Courtney (Gregory) Phillips, and Tyler Webb; five great-grandchildren, Chelsea (Jordan) Murray, Justin Bradley, Cale (Katherine) Bradley, Brooke Bailey, and Keaton Bailey; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis Toby of Horseheads, NY and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother, Lawrence Toby, and sisters, Margaret Cookingham, Evelyn and Eleanor Toby.
There will be a 10:30am visitation and a Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am with luncheon to follow on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 6 Franklin St., Lawrenceville, PA with Pastor Rebecca Cuddeback officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Lindley, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Calvary United Methodist Church, 6 Franklin Street, PO Box 237, Lawrenceville, PA 16929 or Mansfield Fireman's Ambulance Assn. Inc., 379 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA 16933. Services are under the direction of Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA.
