Stewart Burrous

Obituary of Stewart Burrous

On March 11, 2021, Stewart Carl Burrous, 65, went to live with God and Jesus. As Stew described it, he was getting to do something none of us had gotten to do yet. This outlook on death mirrored Stew's positive outlook on life. He was the kind of man who whistled when his project got challenging, believed when something wasn't working that it was time to try something different, and always measured progress as "we're gaining." To Stew, every day was a good day. Stew was born, as he proudly described it, exactly six months from Christmas on June 25, 1955 in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. He embodied what it meant to be a hard-working man, starting his first job at just 9 years old, working alongside his dad. Though he always joked that he was "just Stew," there was little that he didn't take on and succeed at. He served in the military for 20 years, trained troops during Desert Storm, and retired as a Captain. He worked in the natural gas industry for over 40 years, started his own company with his best man, and brought warmth to hundreds of homes through his woodstove and fireplace business. He approached all areas of his life with care, believing that steady, hard work could achieve anything. Whether he was changing oil, teaching you how to shoot a foul shot, or sharing a pack of M&Ms, he believed you should take your time (sometimes to the detriment of the amount of M&Ms he got). Stew worked hard and played hard. He loved boating, playing basketball, waterskiing, reading, hunting, playing cards, petting his dogs, being silly with his grandchildren, and holding his wife's hand. Stew also loved giving back to his community. He was a leader of the Christian Youth Brigade, an Eagle Scout, Boy Scout leader, and taught over 100 kids how to water ski throughout his life. Of all Stew's accomplishments, his greatest was how deeply he loved his family and friends. He is now reunited with his mom, Bessie, and sisters, Susan and Sharon, in Heaven. He will be missed every day by his loved ones: his wife Donna; dad Carl Burrous (Doris); children Trina Samples (Matt), Carl Burrous (Jennifer), Amber Whitney (Joe), Chris Bull (Lisa), Sarah Bull; grandchildren Ashley, Daisy, Henry, Katie, Joey, Levi; pups Dozer and Mokie Mok; and grandpups Mokie Pokie and Pluto. Stew had many roles in his life: son, husband, dad, Papa, friend, mentor, breakfast cooker, and the best light and firewood police a family could ask for. We know he is in Heaven where the Pepsi, Rice Crispy Treats, and lasagna are plentiful, Blue Bloods always has new episodes, and the heavenly music of "Let It Be Christmas" fills the air. In honor of Stew's wishes, there will be a private celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a charity that reminds you of Stew's giving spirit. Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 637 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA is assisting the family.
