Obituary of Mary L. Porter

Mary L. (Makin) Porter, age 95, of Millerton, PA, died on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at her home. Mary was born on June 24, 1913 in Stony Fork, PA, the daughter of the late Walter and Lena (Davis) Makin. She was married to the late George Porter. Prior to her retirement in 1958, she was employed with Corning Glass. Mary enjoyed crossword puzzles, writing to her grandchildrennever forgetting their birthdays, cooking and flower gardening. She was a member of the former Stony Fork United Methodist Church. Mary is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Lois Fisher of Gillett, PA, Phyllis and Bert Garrison of Daggett, PA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Faye Porter of Knox, PA, Harold and Jen Porter of Montrose, PA; seven grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by three sisters, Ina, Ella, Gladys and two brothers, Ernest and Raymond. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 from 5 to 6 PM at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC, 637 South Main Street, Mansfield, PA. A memorial service will be held immediately following calling hours at 6 PM on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the funeral chapel with Pastor Jennifer Wolf officiating. Burial will be in Shumway Hill Cemetery.
