Obituary of Joan Ghods
Joan Ghods, age 64, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio on May 7, 1955 to Dr. Donald and Marjorie Dockry and lived in Austintown, Ohio.
She graduated Austintown Fitch High School in 1973 and Youngstown State University with a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics and Nutrition. She married her husband Abe Ghods in 1978 whom she met in college. He taught as a Professor in the Business, Marketing and Economics Department and retired from Mansfield University this past year. In 1983, she moved to Mansfield, PA. She worked as a preschool and kindergarten teacher at New Covenant Academy in Mansfield as well as a home tutor and later Graduated from Pennsylvania College of Technology with a Medical Technology Assistant degree. She most recently worked at the Mansfield University Health Clinic as a Medical Office Assistant before retiring in 2018.
Her death was caused by complications related to Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Giant Cell Arteritis, both an autoimmune disease.
She is survived by her children Jason (Mansfield), Janon (NYC), and Janie of Pittsburgh as well as her siblings, Ann LaCivita, Bart Dockry (Terry), Michael Dockry (Marie), Molly Roche (Patrick), Donald Dockry (Paulette), Thomas Dockry, Marjorie Bianco (John), and Shawn Dockry.
She was an active member of her church and loved by her large family and community.
She was one of the sweetest, kindest, most caring and generous human beings who was always understanding and patient. She knew how to listen. She had unwavering/unfailing faith and embodied the Christian way by always thinking of others and putting others before herself. She loved being a wife and mother, a friend and sister, and whatever it was she did it well.
Her love was often expressed through her cooking. She enjoyed being in nature and with her family and some of her fondest memories were spent at Gilford Lake near her Ohio hometown and summers at Geneva on the Lake, OH with her family. She also enjoyed antiquing, book club, gardening, and Bible study.
Friends and family are invited to call on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 3:00-5:00pm at the Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 637 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA.
