Obituary of Alan Rodney Flynn
Alan R. Flynn, age 59, of Coudersport, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019 at his home. He was born on July 25, 1960 in Coudersport, the son of Rodney A. Flynn and Katherine (Smith) Garrote. Alan was self-employed as a contractor.
He dedicated his life to his love of horses. He participated in numerous obstacle challenges with his beloved T-Bird, and together they won 100s of blue ribbons. Together they were featured in Dianne Olds Rossi's Magical World Dinner and the Theatre Equus show at the Horse World Expo in Harrisburg where they appeared as the Lone Ranger and Silver. They had many crowd-favorite performances including Cotton-Eyed Joe, Gangnam Style and Puttin' on The Ritz at the Beaver Run Arena. Alan loved the Rainbow Riders organization, training horses, giving riding lessons, instructing obstacle and horsemanship clinics for horses and riders, and participating in numerous other horse shows. He also assisted the Pine City/Southpoint Horses Fundraiser by rescuing and rehabilitating an abused Arabian Mare.
Alan is survived by his mother, Katherine; two sisters, Lisa (Joe) Kightlinger of Coudersport, and Lana (Mark) Beers of Cochranton; several nieces and nephews, Jess (Jack) Dearborn, Nora ( Scott Silvis) Custead, Rory (Ellie) Kightlinger, Katie Jo (Dave) Taylor, and Allison (Jacob) Horn; great nieces and nephews, Gabi Hurrle, Andrew Custead, Adriana Silvis, Addison Custead, Jayden Kightlinger, Mary Kate Heitzenrater – Taylor, Gavin Dearborn, Jaxon Kightlinger, Jude Taylor, Roaen Horn and Baby Horn.
He also cared deeply for many dear friends and his horse partner in crime, Jane Miller, T-Bird, and many beloved animals.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rodney; and step father, Amador Garrote; grandparents Hugh and Gladys Smith and Hugh and Neva Flynn.
Alan's family extends far beyond his blood relatives. He touched the lives of so many, and considered them all family. His family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude for the gift of friendship to his life.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 3:00PM at the Pine Creek Inn, 1637 Old Rt 6 Galeton, PA 16922. Memorial contributions can be made to Rainbow Riders, P.O. Box 122, Troy, PA 16947. Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc is assisting the family.
