I knew Sonny from Laurel Youth Services. He was always kind and good hearted, and woukd have your back. When i worked at kiddie partial in the basement of the building he often came down to help us, and his ability to redirect the little kiddos was amazing. I was out if town and could not attend the services but will keep you all in my thoughts.

To Sonny's brother, Mike, Sonny's son, and family. My sincerest condolences in your loss of this fine man. I had not seen Sonny in at least 20 years but we worked together back then and I was always struck by how principled, earnest, and responsible Sonny was. I always knew I could rely on him. Punctual as all get out, yet patient and respectful of the kids we worked with.
One humorous adventure we had, at least humorous in retrospect, was when we transported a youth to his court hearing. The hearing went well and the boy behaved well. So after court, against our better judgment, instead of getting well out of the boy's hometown before stopping to eat, when the boy asked if we might eat at his favorite diner, Sonny and I agreed. We had a lovely meal and as we relaxedly began to return to the car, doesn't the boy take off running. Sonny and I gave chase, ran like heck after him, but too bad for us. The boy was completely gone. Sonny and I returned back to NTYS with our tails between our legs. We shook our heads over that experience for a long time, haha.
I am so sorry that Sonny became I'll and was taken from this life too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Sonny was one of my counselors at LYS he was one of the few staff members that really cared about his job. He was a father figure for me when i was there. I tried to contact him recently and came up short on a method to do so. I wanted to thank him for never giving up on me. For no matter how bad it got gre was the to lend me his ear. He was a great man and a great role model. He will forever stand in my life as someone i sculpt my life to be more like.
