I've had good people work at our stores over the years and Mary was one of the best. She worked hard and took pride in her bakery department. She was also a friend and mentor to her fellow employees. She and I had many talks about how we could help, not just someone working at the store but even a customer who may have fallen on hard times.
I always admired Mary's empathy towards others. It was never about herself but always others. When she did ask me for something, it was for the bakery--something she know would help her do a better job, have more variety, make a better presentation, and ultimately help sales. I enjoyed every minute of working with her and missed her as soon as she retired.
Mary--you were one of the best!
