My deepest belated condolences to the family of Dr. Wunderlich. Every time I listen to the Eroica it brings me right back to his classroom and I can see and hear his remarks that have resonated with me through my own 40 year career. Charles knew how to connect with his students and the day he put his hand on my shoulder and said, "You'll be a good teacher", made a world of difference for me. He noticed. He showed he cared. He set high expectations.

I found Dr. Wunderlich's email on the Mansfield University Music Dept. website, and attempted to send a thanks to him. Sad to hear he passed in 2018. I attended 90-94, and took all the music history classes taught by him. I am currently in the surveying/engineering profession, and am most often found at my desk, working to the sounds of Brahms, Mozart, Beethoven and Wagner. I thought he might enjoy knowing that his instruction, quips and mannerisms have carried with me. Understanding composers tendencies & influences, musical forms, and historical/cultural settings opened a broad appreciation and love for the Art. I suppose (like I tell my staff) a college degree is merely the beginning of one’s education. Thanks for the start you provided me!

Dr. Wunderlich was one of the finest teachers I've ever known. His standards and expectations were unmatched, and even though I barely lived up to any of them, I appreciate so much the chance to have studied music under him. I will always cherish a memory of his kindness in a personal time of need, when my grandfather passed away and he told me, "Go. Family is most important now." He is legendary in my book, and he will live on in the hearts, minds, and stories of those who knew him. Rest in peace, Dr. Wunderlich!

Blessings & Peace to the Wunderlich Family.
My experiences with Dr. "C" were mind opening and musically incredible. He made many genre's of performance and composition come vitally alive for the listener ! Those technique's and skills are embedded in me still and I must say thanks to Dr. "C".
The Bible talks of grand music in heaven, therefore I am sure Charles Wunderlich is involved in some form !

I can honestly say Dr. Wunderlich was one of the best teachers I've ever had. I had him for music history as a music education major at Mansfield University. He had such an extensive knowledge of the subject mattter, and was able to pass that knowledge on to his students. His classes were never boring. I must admit that those tests were brutal! My sincere condolences to his family.

My sincere condolences to all whose lives were touched by the legendary Dr. Charles Wunderlich. Even before entering Mansfield as a freshman I heard stories of "Chuck Class" and "The ChuckMobile". Now, as a long time alum, there is not a reunion that goes by without the mention of him and his 4 semesters of the history of music throughout the ages. He shared his passion for music with countless students, many of whom have gone on to share it with their students. Truly a ripple in still water spreading the knowledge of the arts to this world of ours. May you all be comforted by your many memories of him and may he Rest In Peace.

I first met Dr. Wunderlich when attending summer music camp and then a few years later as a music student. His sense of humor, passion for teaching and attention to detail has always stuck with me. I fondly remember one of his music history lessons using the recording of Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. Dr. Wunderlich challenged you as a student and a person. The lessons he taught life long. I have often thought about a conversation he and I had during my time at Mansfield in discussing my own traits that would make me what he thought was a good educator. Along in that same pep talk was a lesson that failure isn’t failure if you learn and grow from the experience.
My sincere condolences to Mrs. Wunderlich and his family. May God bestow many blessings and strength.

My sincerest condolences. Dr. Wunderlich made a huge impact on my life. At a point when I wanted to give it all up he insisted I get back up, brush off, and continue on. 23 years later I have accomplished all he said I could and more. He was more than my professor, he was my mentor. May he rest in peace.
Much love,
Maureen

Fran and Family - condolences from my family to yours. I had the privilege of working with Chuck at MU for just a few short years, but always enjoyed seeing him in town. He always took a moment to chat and check up on the news from "the hill". Our prayers are with you in this time of grief, but we know you will be united again. Until then, God's good blessings to all of you for strength, wisdom, perseverance, and faith.

Mrs. Wunderlich and family-I was so sad to hear of the loss of Dr. Wunderlich. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. He was a tough teacher and his tests were even more challenging. However, I learned so much about the music history through his class and his little anecdotes. I think my favorite one was “Bring pretzels and beer for Haydn is here.” The sign of a good teacher is how he helps his students to remember content. That was over 25 years ago and I still remember that. May he Rest In Peace!

Mrs. Wunderlich and family,
Please accept my sincere condolences. What a life Charles has lived! It is obvious he touched many peoples life with his love for music. During this difficult time please remember that we are assured of a solid hope of seeing our loved ones again. One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Revelation 21:4 it reads in part "..he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry be anymore. The former things have passed away." For more encouraging scriptures please go to jw.org.
Sincerely,

I am beyond sad to hear of Dr
Wunderlich's passing. He was an amazing teacher and to me personally a wonderful friend. I spent many hours his in his office, at his home, and in his classroom. There are too many memories to put in a paragraph. I thank him for making me the teacher that I became, for instilling a deep love and appreciation of classical music in me that has lasted my entire life. Words cannot say enough. Rest in peace and I hope you are sitting in heaven with Beethoven right now.

Dr. Wunderlich believed in me at a time where I really needed someone. I will never forget going to his office worried about whether I could handle the workload of being a music major. I knocked on his door, and he could tell I was stressed. He greeted me by saying “What weighs heavy on your mind, Erin?” That 45 minute conversation changed my life. I am forever grateful. Thank you, and God bless your family.

His passion and dedication to his students was top rate. The classes of music history were difficult. Difficulty in the class was to be the fact he was teaching every single student the harsh realities of the world ahead. It is now that I can look back and believe I learned more in the class than what I thought I did. My condolences go out to the family in this difficult time.

My deepest sympathies to Fran and the boys- so very sad to hear of Charles' passing. As a Mansfield music major, "Chuck" tests were a thing of legends..... and indeed, when the ChuckMobile entered the room you knew you were in for a challenge.
As a music teacher for 23+ years I've used what Chuck taught me millions of times- including singing "It's a Bird, it's a Plane It's a Mozart" with first graders.......
I know his years spent with Fran were the happiest in his life. They built a wonderful relationship and family.
Fran- I hope the memories of those wonderful almost 33 years sustain you in the days to come. Much love.
