Obituary of George E. Wheatley
George Edward Wheatley, 91, went into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 2, 2018. He was born in Big Run, PA. Some milestones in George's life were serving in the Army, staying faithful to his wife Donna for 64 years, being a good father to Patsy, building a house in Covington where he remained the rest of his life, working for Turton-Antes Lumber Yard and retiring from Armco Steel. George was a kind, patient, resourceful, hard-working, thrifty man who diligently protected and cared for his family. He had an innate ability to construct and fix things, and he wrote instructions on many things to help others in the future. George loved the outdoors and giving tours of the area's backroads and attractions to anyone who would go with him.
George was predeceased by his parents Albert and Ruth (Brent) Wheatley, his wife Donna (Ames) Wheatley and his sister Mary Jane (Wheatley) Ehlich. He is survived by his daughter Patsy (Wheatley) and and her husband, Rev. Dr. Brad D. Evans; his granddaughter Megan (Evans) and her husband Rev. Robert Hill and grandson Rev. Brent Evans and his wife Lydia; and his six great-grandchildren Brad, Caleb, Nathan and Evelyn Hill and Geneva and Cordelia Evans.
In his last years, George benefited from the friendship and tender care of Cynthia and Robert West, the Christian fellowship of the Bakerburg Community Church, the medical and spiritual attention of UPMC Susquehanna Hospice, the services of the Bath VA medical staff and the patience of the Area Agency on Aging. Thank you all.
