Dear Ann and Patti You're parents created past memories for our Poplar street gang that are forever in the present. Hot summer days- riding bikes (Rollfast with racoon tails on the handlebars , saddlebaskets and a horn....). Being on my own..riding pretty much all day, swimming at the SCI...but always...always knowing that for a few cents I could stop in at Chubbucks and buy penny candy...for a penny!!!! And a real fudgecicle and those little coconut blocks and the mini wax soda bottles with some kind of liquid in them. Just from writing these few lines I've been transported 45 years back in time. The whole Poplar street crew has your parents to thank for those loving and cherished memories. I'm so thankful Chubbucks was a part of my life...there was and is nothing like it! God bless your Mom and Dad and may His peace be with you both.

I have such wonderful memories of your mother and father and especially the store, and being able to race to the store and get bubble gum, because it was way back when, very hard to get. I would also have to run to the store at lunch time and get a 12 cent loaf of bread all the time..... Your mom and dad were devoted to each other, and just loved to go antiqueing with each other. I lived at 315 State Street many years ago. My sympathy to your family.

My memories of Gerald go back to when he ran Chubbuck's Market with his father. All the Burchill kids and many other State Street kids (the Calamans, the Farleys, the Englers, the Fairchilds, the MacLarens) were some of the best customers Chubbuck's Market had when it involved the sale of penny candy. We all grew up and moved away, but the the memories of Gerald and his wife patiently filling up those little paper bags with our nickel and dime selections will always be pleasant ones. Gerald was an icon of that bygone era. May he rest in peace.
