Obituary of William Case Bradshaw
William Case Bradshaw passed away on September 6, 2017 at Wellsboro Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. Bill earned a B. S. in Education from the then Mansfield State Teacher’s College and Dartmouth College, and subsequently a Masters of Education Degree from Mansfield University. He served four years in the U. S. Navy as an officer candidate in Flight Training and Aviation Ordnance.
Bill spent his early career in the construction industry, and in a 20-year period designed, planned and built numerous facilities in Mansfield and the surrounding area. He worked for 25 years as a faculty member and administrator at the Penn College of Technology (formerly Williamsport Area Community College), where he designed several innovative educational programs.
Bill was the Mansfield Chamber’s Max Colegrove Citizen of the Year in 2007 for his service to his community, including the Mansfield Lions Club, the Mansfield Hose Company & Ambulance Association, Mansfield Borough Council and Planning Commission, the Red Cross, United Way, the Parent Teachers Association and other civic organizations.
Bill was a member of the Lions Club for 69 years, and was awarded the 2016-2017 Pennsylvania Counsellor’s Distinguished Award for Community Leadership and Service. As a member of the Lions Club, Bill was co-chair of the Eyeglass Committee and initiated numerous fundraising efforts for a variety of community projects. He was a Lions Club board member for 20 years, zone chairman for four years and served two years as Deputy Governor of District 14-G.
Bill served as president of the Cooperative Education Association of Pennsylvania, and was a Vice-president of the Pennsylvania Vocational Cooperative Education Association. He was a life member of the Mansfield Hose Company and a charter member of the Mansfield Ambulance Association. Bill chaired the 4th of July Antique/Vintage Auto Show. He served on the Vestry of St. James Episcopal Church. Bill directed the Tioga County Sports Hall of Fame and was inducted there in 2016.
Bill was member of the Sports Car Club of America and the Glen Region Sports Car Club for nearly 60 years. He held many positions in these two clubs including Assistant Regional Director, Rally Master, Chief Grid Steward, and Divisional Safety Administrator. He received divisional and national recognition over the years in the form of several awards. The 1st William Bradshaw Award for the SCCA Pro Rally series was established in 2004.
Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Pine Creek area, and loved to explore the wonders of nature with friends and family. He loved telling stories, dancing, and feeding the birds.
Bill was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Pauline Schanbacher Bradshaw, in 2003. He is survived by his three children and their spouses, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William Case Bradshaw’s name to the St. James Episcopal Church, 18 W. Wellsboro St., Mansfield, PA 16933; the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701; and to the Red Cross, 320 E. 3rd St., Williamsport, PA 17701 - specifically for hurricane victims.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at St. James Episcopal Church, E. Wellsboro St., Mansfield, PA with Rev. Rowena Gibbons officiating.
