Obituary of Robert O. Dewey
Robert Oakley Dewey, 90, of Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation in Wellsboro, PA, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017, after a long illness. Born June 27, 1927, on the family farm in Charleston Township, Tioga County, PA, he was the first born of Carl L. Dewey and Leah A. Dewey. On May 31, 1948, in Coudersport, PA he married Doris Onalee McConnell who passed away on July 5, 2015 in Wellsboro, PA. Robert enlisted in the US Navy shortly after graduation from Coudersport High School in 1945 and served as a Pharmacist's Mate at the St. Albans Navy Hospital Facility, NY until his discharge in January 1947.
He then enrolled in Mansfield State Teachers College, Mansfield, PA, graduating in 1950 with a B.S. in Education. He taught high school science at Cowanesque Valley Jr./Sr. High School, then became an insurance agent for Nationwide Insurance Co., serving clientele in Potter and Tioga Counties. He was a Free Mason and member of the Canyon Squares, a square dance organization. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and in retirement became a hobby wine maker.
Surviving are two daughters, Beverley Anne (Goodman), Saline, MI, and Cathy Alleen (Vanocker), Coudersport, PA; two sons, Michael Alan (Lacreticia), O'Fallon, IL, and Fredric Arthur (Jean), Covington, PA; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; a brother, Thomas P., Coudersport, PA, and a sister, Anne Louise (Hart), Washington, TX. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a brother, James Edward, and a sister, Mary Jane.
Cremation services were provided by Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. At the request of Robert and his family there will be no visitation or funeral services. Interment will be in the Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY. www.buckheitfandcrematory.com.
