Obituary of John Joseph Earley

John Joseph Earley, Sr., of Pine City, NY, passed into Heaven on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 following a long courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Earley retired from the Elmira City School District as a Social Studies teacher and Dean of Students after 35 years of service. He was born on October 8, 1935 in Dansville, NY to the late Francis and Barbara Marshall Earley. He graduated from Catholic High in Elmira, NY and served in the U. S. Army in Frankfurt, Germany during the Korean War. On August 13, 1960, John was united in marriage to Doris I. Cole in Mansfield, PA. Mr. Early graduated from Mansfield State College and began working for the Elmira City School District before retiring in 1992. John is survived by his wife, Doris; his daughter, Michele, Elmira, NY; son, John Jr., Nashville, TN (his fianc, Lisa Tucker, and her children, Katie, Emily and Kyle Redner); two grandsons, John Gabriel and Matthew Cole Raymond, Elmira, NY, who knew him lovingly as Papa. His grandsons father, John Raymond, Elmira, NY; two sisters, Mary Randall, Dansville, NY, and Barbara Applin, Elmira, NY. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one brother, Francis; two sisters, Catherine Besanceny, and A. Jean Earley; and one niece, Barbara Jean Glatz. A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Child Catholic Church, 245 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA on Friday, June 8, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Albert P. Leonard as celebrant. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Mansfield, PA at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Kidney Foundation.
