Obituary of C. Haines Scureman
C. Haines Scureman, age 89, of Mansfield, PA, died Thursday, May 26, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 20, 1926 in Jersey Shore, PA, a son of Charles Gordon and Edna (Haines) Scureman. Haines was married to Carole L. Scureman and would have celebrated their 32nd anniversary in September. He graduated from mortuary school in 1952 and was a funeral director for 50 years. Haines owned and operated C. Haines Scureman Funeral Home in Tioga, PA during the 1960's, and in Mansfield, PA from 1983 to 1994. Following his retirement, he worked as a courier for First Citizens National Bank. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Mansfield, for 20 years, and served as a Church Deacon. Haines was a member of the American Legion Herbert Lee Webster Post #235, and a former member of the Mansfield Firemen's Auxiliary. He enjoyed big band music; collecting records; antique cars and going to antique car shows. Haines served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and attained the rank of Corporal.
Haines is survived by his wife, Carole; 2 sons, Mark (Melanie) Scureman, and Daniel Scureman; a daughter, Maria Scureman; a step-son, Shane (Julie) Belknap; 3 step-daughters, Cheryll (John) Mortimer, Shelley (Michael) Smith, Chanda (David) Fritz; a sister, Edna "Nen" Rexford of Marblehead, MA; 16 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 4 nieces. He was predeceased by infant sons, John and Jeffrey Scureman on December 23rd, 1965; a sister, Lydia Kuhl, and his first wife, Mary Ann (Knowlton) Walker.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, May 29, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. A private burial will be in Oregon Hill Cemetery. Thank you to the Susquehanna Hospice Staff, the AOMC staff of the ER, the ICU and the 5th floor D wing for their excellent care.
