Dr. Heaps was instrumental in my development as an educator. He was the teacher that made me realize I could be successful in the classroom; not just on the baseball field. I know that others tried, but he was the one I connected with. Dr. Heaps spent time with me, built a relationship with me, and empowered me to be successful in his classroom. He was fun, down to earth, honest, and full of life. I always enjoyed visiting Dr. Heaps when I had to go to Mansfield. I am going to miss him.

To the Heaps Family, Having just heard the news via phone call from PA to me in New Jersey that Doc has passed away, my heart is heavy. Doc was my teacher at Mansfield Univ. and one of the most influential people in my life! He not only influenced me to become the best educator I could be, but a lover of travel and adventure. My experiences with Doc included student teaching in Australia, working in the Gifted Camp and travelling to numerous countries with students. Doc literally opened the world to me, experiences I would have not had otherwise. Over the years, he taught me the true meaning of education personally and professionally! His influence runs deep and I pass his 'life lessons' on daily to people in my life here in New Jersey. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you all at the this time. Sincerely, Lynne Lynne Ann S. Fox

I attended MAnsfield from 1971 thru 1975. Doc Heaps was one of the best that Mansfiled ever offered. HE was a great man and a mentor to so many. not to mention the Baseball team. The Brookins twins come to mind along with Larry Rosetti. He offered so much to those young men. We will truely miss this GREAT MAN Tom Browning

In the 1970's when I was an undergrad student, Doc Heaps made a great impression on me. Not only was he an excellent educator but I will always remember his compassion and drive to make us be the best that we could be. Even though I was not very good at baseball, he kept encouraging me at the el.ed. block baseball game. He helped me become the educator that I am today and made Mansfield University the special place that it is and always will be.

I graduated from Mansfield in 1986 with a degree in education. Dr. Heaps was not only a wonderful faculty member, but also a sincere and thoughtful friend. Please know that others are thinking about you during this difficult time. Mary Calistri Geise

My condolences to Doc's family. He was a true gentleman and a great co-worker at MU. May he rest in peace with his son Stan, who was also my good friend.
