Obituary of Walter J. Vandermark

Walter J. Vandermark, age 83, of Gillett, PA died Friday, February 19, 2016 at Troy Community Hospital. He was born on March 7, 1932 in Elmira, NY, the son of Arthur N. and Edith A. (VanHorn) Vandermark. Walter was the husband of Shirley A. (Swavely) Vandermark. He worked construction for Don Narde Paving and Baker's Paving before he retired. Walter was a member of the Millerton Wesleyan Church. Walter is survived by his wife, Shirley Swavely Vandermark; children, Walter Vandermark (Robin) of FL, Arthur Vandermark (Brenda) of GA, Dawn Swavely Pellicano (Joseph) of PA, Lisa Giannio (Andrew) of NY, Debra Powlison (Janice) of PA, Richard Swavely (Rose) of PA, Tammy Lawton (John) of FL; a daughter-in-law, Mary Vandermark; a sister, Francis Fields of NY; 38 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a special nephew, Steven Coolbaugh; many wonderful friends and neighbors. Walter was known for his love of animals, knowledge and love of horses and hunting. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Arthur and Theodore Vandermark; sisters, Marsella, Edith, Mary and half-sister, Ruth VanHorn; sons, Ronald Vandermark and Charles Hartman. Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, February 27, 2016, 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at St. James Episcopal Church, 30 E. Wellsboro St., Mansfield, PA.
