Obituary of Audrey L. Smith

SMITH, Audrey L. Audrey L. Smith, age 88, of Mansfield, PA passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016, in Wellsboro, PA. She was the wife of Howard (Bud) Smith, who passed away in 2007. Audrey was born on May 16, 1927 in Scranton, PA, the daughter of Willard and Ethel (Bebb) Birtley and grew up in Bloomsburg, PA attending Susquehanna University and Bloomsburg State College. Audrey retired from the Publications Department at Mansfield University. An avid reader, she volunteered for several years at the Mansfield Free Public Library. She also volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels for the Mansfield Senior Center. She loved cats, bird watching, and Hills Creek Lake. A fun fact about this stubborn lady who didn't want to back down from a challenge – although afraid of heights, she got her pilot license –just because her brother told her she wouldn't be able to. Audrey is survived by her four children and their significant others, Stephanie A. and Roger Rockwell of Sayre, PA, Douglas K. Smith of Mansfield, PA, Karen L. Cummings and Gunter Hofrichter of Concord, PA, and Curt J. and Stephanie Smith of Lovettsville, VA; seven grandchildren, Tiffany, Brandi, Luke, Danielle, Todd, Catharine, and Leah; and five great-grandchildren, Skyler, Lorenzo, Jocelen, Jaiden, and Griffin. Audrey was predeceased by her brothers, Willard and Irving Birtley, and her sister Marilyn Trudnak. Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, January 17, 2016 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. A memorial service will follow at the funeral chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor John Berguson officiating.
