Obituary of James E. Edgerton
James E. Edgerton, age 80, of Mansfield, PA, died Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA. Jim was born August 17, 1935 in Tioga County, PA, a son of Walter "Ellsworth" and Sarah (Stevens) Edgerton. He was married for 56 years to Mary Jane (Rose) Edgerton who passed away on February 23, 2014. Jim graduated from Mansfield State College and taught at R. B. Walter Elementary School in Tioga, PA; was a case manager for the Tioga County Mental Health Agency. He and his wife owned and operated a Mister Donut in Elmira Heights, NY for a number of years. Jim also worked at Buckheit Funeral Chapel. He was a lifelong member of St. James Episcopal Church, Mansfield, the Church Vestry, Jr. Warden; member of Corey Creek Golf Club for decades, scoring 2 holes-in-one; competitive long-distance runner, placing in many regional races, and served in many capacities in support of the church.
Jim was a car enthusiast and a dog lover. He was a Sgt. in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.
Jim is survived by a daughter, Melinda (Melvin) Wentzel of Williamsport, PA; 3 grandchildren, Sara Neal, Taylor Wentzel and Sadie Wentzel; many nieces and nephews; loving caregiver, Agatha Smarte. Besides his wife, Mary Jane, he was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey E. Edgerton in 2006; 2 brothers, Walter "Skip" Edgerton and John "Jack" Edgerton.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from Noon to 1:00 P.M. at St. James Episcopal Church, 18 St. James St., Mansfield, PA. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Rowena Gibbons officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Mansfield, PA.
