Obituary of James Ira Fields
James Ira The Bubblegum Mailman Fields, age 80, of Troy, PA, died Monday, February 19, 2007 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. He was the husband of Barbara (Bailey) Fields. James was born on July 24, 1926 in Troy, PA, a son of James L. and Stella (Monroe) Fields. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier after 30 years of service. At age 80, he ran for Township Supervisor on Armenia Mountain and was elected, and also returned to work as roadmaster. He was a member of the F&AM Lodge, Troy PA, on the board for the Troy Fair and worked GATE 2 for many years, he BA for the Teamsters Union in Elmira for several years. James was an avid bowler, loved having his family around, loved flowers and working on flower beds. He was a U.S. Army WW II veteran.
James is survived by his wife, Barbara; a daughter and son-in-law, Earlene and Chuck Bailey; three grandsons, Brad (Stacey) Bailey of Williamsport, PA, Chris (Sara) Bailey of Armenia Mountain, PA, Eric (Lauren) Bailey of Mansfield, PA; two step-grandsons, Buddy and David; one great-grandson, Jarrod; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Betty Fields of Greencastle, Ind., Donnie and Marlene Fields of Saucier, Miss.; a sister-in-law, Joan Fields of Tenn.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Barb Bailey of Berkley Springs, WV; many special nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Theodore Fields.
