Obituary of Irene M. Bowers

Irene M. Bowers, age 79, of Covington, PA, died Friday, July 25, 2014 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. She was born July 12, 1935 in Elverson, PA, a daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Ruoss) Siefrit. She was the wife of Hartwell T. Bowers for 58 years. Irene was a member of Calvary Nazarene in Williamsport, PA. She was a foster parent for over 30 years to over 100 children. Irene was a 4H leader for many years; and a teacher's aide at East Vincent Elementary School in Spring City, PA. Irene is survived by her husband Hartwell; 5 sons; Todd Bowers of Saltsburg, PA, Jon and Dennis Bowers of Covington, PA, Jeff and John Bowers of Shoemakersville, PA; a daughter, Grace Edwards of New Holland, PA; a brother, Joseph Siefrit of Reading, PA; 4 sisters, Mary Parke of Gap, PA, Sara Barrett of Holt, MO, Cassie Siefrit of Leader Heights, PA, and Iona Partlow of Sanatoga, PA. Irene is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She had a big heart and lots of love for all children. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, August 1, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral chapel with Rev. Lou Gatti officiating.
